The item categorizer is configured to parse, in at least one computing device, at least a plurality of product descriptions of a like item category for identifying a plurality of keywords with regard to the like item category. Furthermore, the item categorizer selects a plurality of subsets of keywords from the plurality of keywords, each subset of keywords comprises a unique combination of the plurality of keywords with respect to each other. Moreover, the item categorizer is configured to generate a respective rule for each corresponding subset of keywords, wherein an application of each respective rule specifies a respective binary result depending upon whether the corresponding subset of keywords is included in a seller product description.

    摘要: A method and system are disclosed for browsing an electronic hierarchical product catalog. The catalog is organized as a tree data structure with each node corresponding to an item category, an item sub-category, or an attribute that describes characteristics of items in a category. Such attributes may be used as filters for searching for an item or item category. The catalog tree is a collection of linked independent sub-trees including category and attribute sub-trees. The sub-trees allow navigation of the catalog tree via links between various nodes. The sub-trees may be linked to multiple other sub-trees, providing easy navigation for users and simplifying the addition of new sub-categories and attributes to the catalog tree, for service providers. The use of linked sub-trees also allows attributes set by the user in a previous search to be used in a subsequent search for a similar item.

More specifically, methods and systems identify a set of search categories based on search category preference information obtained from the search results. The data entries are returned after searching on data stores with a search query provided by a user, and then the ranks of the returned data entries are determined based on a degree of relevancy with the search query. The dynamically selected search categories are displayed in an order corresponding to the rank of the data entries where the search category preference information is obtained.

    摘要: An item categorization service is described that automatically categorizes items of interest to a user. The user may possess an item that they wish to offer for sale using a network-based service. The user may submit item information to the categorization service to categorize the item of interest. Upon receipt, the categorization service may assess the relevance of the item information to hierarchically organized categories maintained by the network-based service. Categories having the highest relevance may be identified as first category candidates. The deepest common ancestor of the first category candidates may be identified the first category. One or more categories related to the first category may also be identified and subjected to relevance assessment. Those related categories having the highest relevance may be identified as second category candidates. The deepest common ancestor of the second category candidates may be identified as a second category for the item of interest.

    摘要: An item categorization service is described that automatically categorizes items of interest to a user.
