Abstract:
An alignment system for aiding in the alignment of a golf club with a golf ball prior to hitting the golf ball includes a pad of material having a bottom surface for placement on a support surface, and a resilient top surface on which the golf ball is to be placed for hitting. Also included are first and second stripes defined in the top surface of the pad in a side-by-side, generally parallel relationship at or near the location at which the golf ball is to be placed, for enabling the visual alignment of the golf club head relative to the stripes and the golf ball.
Abstract:
A tire changer which utilizes an elongated bead breaker assembly with a tool that defines a pair of contiguous, substantially planar tire contact surfaces which define therebetween an included angle in the range of about 155 to about 165 degrees. The tool is situated at an included angle of about 55 to 65 degrees with respect to longitudinal axis of the elongated bead breaker assembly.

Abstract:
An adjustable mold for direct chill casting of metals has longitudinally movable end walls which are clamped between the mold side walls during casting. Each end wall is secured to a sliding carriage which supports the end wall and allows it to be moved along the end portions of the side walls. The sliding suspender has a clamping mechanism which applies a clamping force to one or both of the side walls, the force being transversely directed through a center of the end wall. The side walls are pivotable relative to one another to allow clamping and unclamping of the end walls. Preferably, one end of each side wall is pivotable so as to transversely displace the opposite end of the side wall, with the pivoting ends of the respective side walls preferably being opposite one another across the mold.
Abstract:
Apparatus for projecting selected images of a scene onto a screen, such as images of a golf course looking toward a green, and for projecting and moving a spot of light on the screen superimposed on the scene, such as to represent the travel of a hit golf ball toward the green in the scene, provides both a scene projector and a light spot projector secured in fixed relationship in the same housing and provides dedicated control circuitry for controlling the apparatus in response to instruction signals received from outside the apparatus. The spot projector includes two rotatable mirrors controlled by two stepper motors to control the movement of the spot on the screen. Special circuitry is provided to generate control signal pulses for the stepper motors using a combination of a count signal pulse and a synchronizing pulse. Compensation for nonlinearities in the stepper motors may be provided by reference to a correlation table stored in memory. The scene projector may be provided with automatic focus control using a modulated light beam and stepper motor position control.
Abstract:
Sport simulation equipment, such as a equipment for simulating a game of golf, and made up of a plurality of components, each component adapted to carry out a function of the system in coordination with other components, and a control circuit for directing and coordinating operation of the system components, incorporates a communication system whereby each component may be connected to a transmission line and can send and receive information regarding coordination and operation of components. Each component includes a communication interface circuit which is connected between the component and the transmission line to send and receive information via the transmission line. The control circuit include a similar communication interface means connected to the transmission line. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, communication is initiated by a request in a predefined format addressed to a component to which the component responds in a predefined format. A preferred predefined format consists of one or more fields of eleven bits each which each include eight data bits.
Abstract:
Lead is recovered from battery scrap by means of a process comprising (1) reacting the scrap with a slurry of calcium hydroxide to form a product comprising PbO and CaSO.sub.4.2H.sub.2 O, (2) filtering and drying the reaction product and (3) reacting the product with a mixture of carbon and a KCl-NaCl flux at elevated temperature to flux the calcium sulfate and reduce the lead oxide to metallic lead.
