Abstract: A device for indicating the passage of a pig beyond a predetermined location in a pipeline comprising a pig detector connected to a pipeline and communicating with the interior of the pipeline through an opening at the location, a trigger slidably mounted in the pig detector and adapted to project downwardly into the interior of the pipeline through the opening, an indicator housing associated with the pig detector, a cylindrical indicator being vertically slidably mounted within the indicator housing, a plurality of catch fingers pivotally mounted in the housing for pivotal movement toward and away from the central axis of the housing, a catch spring for urging the fingers pivotally towards the central axis, an indicator spring mounted within the housing for resiliently urging the indicator upwardly beyond the indicator housing so as to be visible and to provide an indication that a pig has passed by, a lock pin attached to the lower surface of the indicator, an actuator connected to the trigger and having a portion bearing against the fingers, whereby, when the indicator is pushed downwardly, the lock pin will pry the catch fingers apart and thereafter the catch fingers will engage the lock pin to hold the indicator in a downward position within the indicator housing, whereby, when a pig moves in the pipeline past the trigger and actuates the trigger, the actuator will bear against the fingers and separate them radially against the action of the catch spring to release the lock pin and allow the indicator to move upwardly beyond the indicator housing so as to provide a visual indication that a pig has passed by.

Abstract: A cleaning pig comprising a forward cup, a rear cup and a connecting central body extending between the two cups, the cups having an outside diameter corresponding generally to the inside diameter of a pipeline to be cleaned by the cleaning pig, a plurality of leaf springs extending rearwardly and radially outwardly from the central body between the two cups and being connected to the central body at their inner ends, a plurality of scraper blocks attached to the outer free ends of the leaf springs and adapted to engage the inner surface of the pipeline wall and being urged resiliently against the inner surface of the pipeline wall by the leaf springs, each scraper block having an outer surface which is curved to correspond with the diameter of the pipeline wall and adapted to engage the inner surface of the pipeline wall as the cleaning pig moves forward in the pipeline, each scraper block having an inner surface opposite from the outer surface and facing the central body, each scraper block having a forward surface generally transverse to the outer surface and facing the forward direction of movement of the pipeline pig, each scraper block having a rear surface opposite from the forward surface and generally transverse to the outer surface and the inner surface of the scraper block, the forward surface connecting with the outer surface along a parabolic cutting edge for removing paraffin from the inside of a pipeline wall when the pig moves in a forward direction through the pipeline.

Abstract: A cleaning device of the type for removing dirt, scale and extraneous material from the inner wall of a pipeline which comprises a body adapted to be moved longitudinally through the pipeline, a plurality of scraper elements mounted on the body for resiliently engaging the inner wall of the pipeline as the body is moved along the pipeline and at least one cup mounted on the body for sealably engaging the pipeline wall so that the body may be propelled through the pipeline by fluid pressure behind the cup, the improvement which comprises a polyurethane spring mounted between the body and each of the scraping elements for resiliently urging the scraping elements against the inner wall of the pipeline, the polyurethane spring comprising an elongated base member for attachment of the spring to the body, an outer side member disposed in spaced parallel relation with the inner base member and a plurality of cross members extending outwardly and rearwardly from the inner base member to and connecting with the outer side member, the cross members being essentially parallel to each other, the scraping elements being mounted on the outer side member and being resiliently urged against the inner wall of the pipeline by the polyurethane spring, the pressure of the spring against the outer side member being such as to tend to cause the outer side member to move rearwardly and inwardly, while the cross members cant in a rearward direction.
