Embodiments for performing an image process and a size measurement upon a three-dimensional ultrasound image are disclosed. In one embodiment, by way of non-limiting example, an ultrasound system comprises: a user input unit configured to receive input information for setting at least one seed point on a two-dimensional ultrasound image from a user; an ultrasound data acquisition unit configured to transmit and receive ultrasound signals to and from a target object including a plurality of objects of interest and output ultrasound data; and a processing unit configured to form volume data based on the ultrasound data, form the two-dimensional ultrasound image and a three-dimensional ultrasound image based on volume data, detect at least one object of interest corresponding to the input information from the three-dimensional ultrasound image, and perform an image process and a size measurement of the detected object of interest upon the three-dimensional ultrasound image.

According to such method, a spectrum image is formed based on ultrasound data and then the noise is removed from the spectrum image. The noise-removed spectrum image is matched with one or more spectrum models representing specific spectrum types. Then, whether or not the noise-removed spectrum image contains an aliasing is checked. If the noise-removed spectrum image contains the aliasing, then the aliasing is removed from the noise-removed spectrum image to provide a noise-removed spectrum image without the aliasing. Thereafter, contour tracing is performed on the noise-removed spectrum image without the aliasing to detect contour points. Further, peak tracing is performed on the noise-removed spectrum image without the aliasing to detect peaks.

The ultrasound system includes a Tx/Rx unit to transmit an ultrasound beam to a target object and receive ultrasound echoes reflected from the target object to thereby output receive signals. The receive signals include first receive signals obtained before injecting a fluid into the target object and second receive signals obtained after injecting the fluid into the target object. The ultrasound system further includes a processing unit to form a first ultrasound image based on the first receive signals and a second ultrasound image based on the second receive signal. The processing unit further compares the first ultrasound image and the second ultrasound image for detecting extravasation at the target object.

A method for enhancing an image quality of a two-dimensional (2D) ultrasound image, comprises the steps of: a) decomposing the 2D ultrasound image into a plurality of images having a multi-resolution by N levels, wherein N is a positive integer; b) determining characteristics of each pixel in the decomposed image; c) performing an enhancement process for the decomposed image based on the pixel characteristics; d) performing 1st-level composition for the decomposed image; and e) repeatedly performing steps b) to d) until a size of the composed image is identical to that of the 2D ultrasound image.
