Abstract: Provided is a development cartridge mounted on a main body of an image forming apparatus. The development cartridge includes a photoconductive unit, a developing unit coupled to the photoconductive unit so as to rotate to a development position and a release position, and an elastic member that provides an elastic force to maintain the developing unit at the development position. A switching member is mounted on a rotation shaft of the developing roller to be rotatable about a rotation shaft of a developing roller. The switching member is switched to a first state where the switching member contacts an interfering portion of the photoconductive unit and rotates the developing unit to the release position and to a second state where the switching member is separated from the interfering portion and allows the developing unit to rotate to the development position due to the elastic force of the elastic member.

Abstract: Provided is a method of detecting release of a development nip of an image forming apparatus that includes a photoconductor and a developing roller to contact each other to form a development nip and to be away from each other to release the development nip. The method includes obtaining a reference load, after charging the photoconductor in a state in which the development nip is formed, by measuring a load of a transfer system including the photoconductor and a transfer roller, release the development nip and blocking light irradiated from an exposing unit to the photoconductor, obtaining a detected load by measuring a load of the transfer system after exposing the photoconductor, and determining whether the development nip is normally released based on the reference load and the detected load.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus capable of detecting a development nip disengaging error and a method of detecting a development nip disengaging error are provided. According to an example method, a test pattern is formed on a photoconductor of an image forming apparatus, the test pattern transferred to an intermediate transfer belt is detected through a sensor from a time when an operation of an adjusting member moving a developing roller is controlled such that the developing roller moves from a disengaging position where the developing roller is spaced from the photoconductor to disengage a development nip from the photoconductor to a developing position where the developing roller is in contact with the photoconductor to form the development nip, and whether the development nip disengaging error occurred is determined based on the detected test pattern.

Abstract: Disclosed is a development cartridge detachable from a main body of an image forming apparatus. The development cartridge includes a lateral waste toner sealing member contacting an end portion of a photosensitive drum in a lengthwise direction of the photosensitive drum to prevent a waste toner from leaking through the end portion of the photosensitive drum, and a photosensitive frame including a waste toner container to contain the waste toner, a first attachment surface, to which the lateral waste toner sealing member is attached, and a side wall to form a boundary at an upstream side of the first attachment surface with respect to a rotation direction of the photosensitive drum. The lateral waste toner sealing member includes an opposite surface facing the side wall, and a protrusion protruding towards the side wall is provided on the opposite surface.
