Abstract:
The present invention provides an ink jet printing apparatus of a low-cost and simple construction which can detect with high reliability a gap between a print medium and a print head mounted on a carriage. The ink jet printing apparatus, which reciprocally moves in a predetermined scan direction the carriage holding the print head for ejecting ink onto the print medium, includes a gap changing mechanism for changing the gap between the print head held in the carriage and the print medium and a control unit for controlling a driving of the gap changing mechanism and a reciprocal movement of the carriage, wherein the control unit drives the gap changing mechanism and reciprocally moves the carriage to check the operation state of the gap changing mechanism.

Abstract:
A head unit detects the temperature of its internal printhead a plurality of number of times, and generates a plurality of digital signals corresponding to respective temperatures. The head unit determines a digital signal used as the temperature of the printhead on the basis of the generated digital signals. The head unit transmits the determined digital signal to a main unit having a main PCB. The main unit receives the digital signal transmitted from the head unit. The main unit executes printing control of the printhead based on the received digital signal.
Abstract:
The invention is directed toward improving the efficiency with which an ink-jet printing apparatus performs preliminary discharging of ink. Specifically, the host apparatus of a printer specifies, as part of image data, the timing at which the printer is to execute printhead recovery. The host computer acquires information relating to the nozzle arrangement of the printer and determines, from this nozzle arrangement information and rendered image data, the nozzle number of any nozzle that has failed to discharge ink for more than a predetermined number of scans. When image data is rendered with regard to non-discharging nozzles, preliminary-discharge image data is combined with this data and the combined data is transmitted to the printer.
