摘要: An optical scanning and encoding device for providing a print signal pulse train to an ink jet printer in which a master image, including a reference image area, is scanned along a scan line. An optical scanner scans the master image and provides a signal which is inversely related to the print density of the image along the scan line. An integrator integrates the density signal during receipt of a gating signal pulse. A level detector detects when the integrator output has reached a predetermined level and provides a pulse to the printer and to an integrator reset circuit. A reference level means, responsive to scanning the reference image area, provides a signal output indicative of the maximum print density in the master image. A tachometer provides tachometer pulses at a frequency proportional to the rate at which the master image is scanned along the scan line. Means are responsive to the output of the reference level means and to the tachometer means for providing gating signal pulses to the integrator means, which pulses are of a frequency proportional to the tachometer pulses. Each of the gating signal pulses is inversely proportional in duration to the output of the reference level. The pulse signal to the printer is therefore compensated for fluctuation in the rate at which the master image is scanned and also for fluctuations in the optical path of the scanning means.

摘要: A jet drop copying apparatus has an array of printing nozzles supported for axial movement over a copy paper mounted upon a rotating drum. Simultaneously therewith an optical scanning system scans a document positioned flat on a planar support surface and sweeps an image thereof across an array of photosensors arranged in correspondence with the array of printing nozzles. Output signals from the photosensors are supplied to a control unit which controls the printing operation of the nozzles. The control unit also controls the optical scanning for synchronism with the movement of the nozzle array relative to the copy paper. The nozzles are rather widely spaced, but their spacing (and likewise the photosensor spacing) is adjusted in accordance with the number thereof and with the nozzle movement speed so as to produce an interlaced solid printed copy. Optical distortion during scanning is avoided by provision of a double lens arrangement with a rotating mirror therebetween.

摘要: A stepping motor is simulated by controlling the orientation of a servomotor's shaft with a control feedback circuit that generates a control signal based upon signals from an optical shaft encoder. The encoder includes a rotary light mask having symmetrically arranged transparent and opaque regions which move across the axes of paired, fixed, optical channels. The two channels of each pair are angularly disposed around the axis of the light mask such that, whenever the light fluxes striking both channels' detectors are changing, one will be increasing and the other decreasing. The analog control signal is generated as the difference of the voltage outputs of paired detectors.

摘要: Method and apparatus for sorting and deflecting a progression of liquid particles by selectively applying electrical charges of varying amplitude and subjecting the charged particles to the influence of an electrically conductive surface while the particles are subjected to an electric field such that sufficiently charged particles will be deflected laterally of the electrically conductive surface. This results in higher charged particles being deflected to a catching mechanism and the lower charged particles being directed onto a recording medium at locations selectively laterally displaced from their original trajectories.

摘要: There is disclosed a surgical tissue macerating and removal tool having a rotating rod with a cutting member at one end and disposed in a tube which itself is disposed coaxially in an extension of the tool handle. A frusto-conical member extends into the extension at the cutter member end of the rotating rod with its small end engaging the tube. The portion of the frusto-conical member outside of the extension forms a tissue engaging member and may be cut-off at an angle to the axis of the rod to form a tissue engaging edge. Apertures are provided in the extension adjacent the frusto-conical member so that treatment fluid supplied in the annular space between the tube and the extension may flow to the operative site. An aperture is provided in the frusto-conical member between the extension and the tube so that fluid may also flow into the tube where it mixes with macerated tissue being directed through an aperture in the tube to a passageway which may have suction applied thereto to help remove macerated material. Radially-inwardly extending fins may be provided on the interior surface of the frusto-conical member to inhibit or prevent rotation of the tissue being macerated as, for example, the lens of an eye.

摘要: An ink jet printing head (10) is provided for use in an ink jet printing device, having an ink supply reservoir (14) formed in a manifold (12) for supplying ink to a plurality of orifices (16) formed in rows in an orifice plate (18) extending longitudinally along the bottom of the manifold (12) and forming the lower part of the reservoir (14) through which a plurality of droplets of fluid can be expelled under pressure. In one embodiment, the upper surface of the reservoir (14) is closed by a vibrationally flexible and magnetically active diaphragm plate (32) having its lower surface in contact with the upper surface of the liquid in the reservoir (14). An electromagnetic device is provided having a portion (40) coupled to the diaphragm (32) to form a magnetic flux path therethrough and another portion (38) positioned adjacent and above the diaphragm (32) so that that portion (38) and the diaphragm (32) form opposite poles of the electromagnet. A signal generator means (48) then imposes an alternating electric current of the desired frequency on the electromagnetic device so as to vibrate the diaphragm (32) and cause vibration of the liquid which in turn produces uniform series of droplets from the orifices (16). An alternative structure utilizes a thin orifice plate (62) with the electromagnetic device coupled to the orifice plate (62) rather than the diaphragm (32) so that the orifice plate (62) is vibrated to cause a uniform series of droplets to be expelled from the orifices (16). Both embodiments also preferably are provided with a bias (50) on the diaphragm (32) or the orifice plate (62), whichever is vibrated, which then only permits vibration of the orifice plate (62) or diaphragm (32) in one direction.

摘要: A magnetic heating and cooling system is disclosed. A magnetic fluid is pumped through at least a portion of the heating and cooling system. The fluid moves through the field of a superconducting or other type of magnet. When the fluid enters the magnetic field, it is heated as a result of the magnetization. Heat from the magnetic fluid is then transferred to a regenerator chamber. When the fluid leaves the magnetic field it is chilled. Heat from a regenerator chamber is then transferred to the fluid. External loads or sinks are heated or cooled.
