Abstract:
The invention discloses systems and methods for enhancing the sound of vocal utterances of interest in an acoustically cluttered environment. The system generates canceling signals (sound suppression signals) for an ambient audio environment and identifies and characterizes desired vocal signals and hence a vocal stream or multiple streams of interest. Each canceling signal, or collectively, the noise canceling stream, is processed so that signals associated with the desired audio stream or streams are dynamically removed from the canceling stream. This modified noise canceling stream is combined (electronically or acoustically) with the ambient to effectuate a destructive interference of all ambient sound except for the removed audio streams, thus “enhancing” the vocal streams with respect to the unwanted ambient sound. Cepstral analysis may be used to identify a fundamental frequency associated with a voiced human utterance. Filtering derived from that analysis removes the voiced utterance from the canceling signal.
Abstract:
Described herein is a chambered container that allows for the mixture of two liquids in a specific ratio that includes first and second chambers for storing liquid. A dispensing device passing positioned to deliver liquid from the second chamber into the first chamber. Graduated portions are found on the container in order to accurately measure the amount of fluid in each of the chambers. The container may also have a coating of non-slip material.
Abstract:
The invention provides a vehicle rooftop-mounted cargo container of rigid design that has the capability of sliding forward or rearward in the direction of travel of the vehicle on semi permanent mounting points while remaining attached to the vehicle, and that has the means to selectively keep the container from sliding forward or rearward upon the mounting points, and that also has the capability of being assembled as a container into various lengths using only a few interchangeable component parts.
Abstract:
An active denial apparatus for use in non-lethal weaponry includes at least one focusing element configured to focus millimeter-wave energy along an axis of propagation. The at least one focusing element includes an astigmatic or dual axis focusing system configured to direct a focused beam that allows the active denial apparatus to accurately immobilize targets at both close and long range within acceptable limits of intensity.
Abstract:
A fabric armband is sewn together from several pieces of fabric material with a pocket and pocket flap made of a semi-transparent mesh fabric and the remainder of the armband made from a highly resilient elastic fabric. The armband is formed as a truncated cone with open ends. The armband is ingeniously sewn so that most of the sewn edges of the various portions are secured so that they are not able to catch or rib on jewelry when being pulled on or off an arm.
Abstract:
A modular card issuance system comprises a plurality of sequentially ordered modules configured such that each module is in electrical communication with its adjacent modules. This system also comprises a main controller that is in electrical communication with each of the modules. Upon power-up of the system and without assistance from the main controller, each module determines its own identity, its relative position among the plurality of modules and the total number of modules in the system. This information is then reported to the main controller upon request from the main controller.
Abstract:
An apparatus for displaying ribbons and badges on a garment wherein predetermined arrangements of awards can be quickly and reliably established using designated openings in a template. Using break-away portions, the template can be sized as needed and pin holes are preferably used to mount ribbons having a marking implement such as a pin to secure the ribbon to a uniform. A separate badge positioning section includes horizontal slots preferably slightly offset vertically with a portion of said horizontal slots co-linear.
Abstract:
A new Boat Alerting System for maximizing a boat's visibility to other boaters during darkness and inclement weather conditions. The inventive device includes a hollow aluminum shaft removably secured to a boat, a water proof electronics housing secured to the hollow aluminum shaft, a transparent light housing secured to the water proof electronics housing, and a lighting means secured within the transparent light housing.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for performing tomography are disclosed herein. The apparatus includes an emitter for scanning an object with a detection beam, a diffuser for scattering a transmitted portion of the detection beam that passes through the object in order to generate a scattered signal, and at least one detector for detecting a portion of the scattered signal. The diffuser has a diffusive surface area, and the detector has a total detection area that is smaller than the diffusive surface area.
