Abstract:
A system and method for gathering quality data for a plurality of healthcare providers over an extended computer network is disclosed. The system and method comprise an enhanced services server in electronic data communication with a plurality of Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems via a network connection, the plurality of EHR systems being configured to capture patient data for a plurality of patients at the plurality of healthcare providers' sites during a plurality of encounters with each of the plurality of patients, and the enhanced services server being built on the same architecture as the plurality of EHR systems. Electronic quality of care forms are retrieved from one or more form managers via the network connection and a plurality of fields in each of the electronic quality of care forms are automatically populated using the patient data captured by the plurality of EHR systems. The completed electronic quality of care forms are then automatically transmitted to one or more form receivers via the network connection, the one or more form receivers being one or more organizations that process quality of care data to qualify healthcare providers for at least one of certifications, accreditations, and monetary incentives.
Abstract:
An integrated medical software system with automated prescription management is disclosed. The system comprises a clinical module that is utilized by a user of the system to create an electronic document and to capture clinical data in the electronic document with a user interface during an encounter with a patient, said clinical data including one or more prescriptions the user generates for the patient, and said electronic document being pre-populated with at least a portion of demographic data for the patient; and an application that interfaces the system with at least one of a lab, a pharmacy, and a prescription system via a network connection and that automatically submits instructions for filling the one or more prescriptions to the at least one of a lab, a pharmacy, and a prescription system as the one or more prescriptions are generated for the patient during the encounter with the patient, wherein the user can generate the one or more prescriptions for the patient by using the user interface to select the one or more prescriptions from one or more previously generated prescriptions such that the instructions for filling the one or more prescriptions will be automatically submitted to the at least one of a lab, a pharmacy, and a prescription system without the user writing a new prescription.
Abstract:
An integrated medical software system with location-driven bill coding is disclosed. The system comprises an information component that automatically retrieves payment method data and demographic data for a patient and location data for a healthcare provider; a clinical component that captures at least one of a diagnosis code, a procedure code, and an evaluation and management (E&M) code as at least one of a clinician and a staff member at the healthcare provider inputs clinical data for the patient into the an electronic document during an encounter with the patient; a mapping component that automatically associates a billing code with the at least one of a pathology code, a procedural code, and an E&M code and assigns a service cost to the billing code based on a pre-defined fee schedule, said pre-defined fee schedule being automatically chosen based on the location data for the healthcare provider; and a service detail entry component that uses the payment method data and the demographic data for the patient and the service cost to automatically generate at least one of a bill, a claim, and a statement for the patient.
Abstract:
Users can use a portal for remote monitoring of clinical trials and the sites, personnel, and patients involved. A scheduling function allows users to schedule access. Site sponsors can run productivity reports.
Abstract:
An integrated medical software system with embedded transcription functionality is disclosed. The system comprises a clinical module for capturing clinical data for a patient in a first electronic document and a communication component that communicates the clinical data to a rule-based clinical decision support (CDS) system and receives at least one of an alert, warning, reminder, and recommendation back from the CDS system based on the clinical data. The CDS system is configured to compare the clinical data against a knowledge base to identify the at least one of an alert, warning, reminder, and recommendation; the clinical data is serialized into a standardized database language and placed into a first electronic clinical document defined by a clinical document exchange standard before being communicated to the CDS system; and the at least one of an alert, warning, reminder, and recommendation is provided in a second electronic clinical document defined by the clinical document exchange standard when received back from the CDS system.

Abstract:
A system and method for performing medical research over an extended computer network is disclosed. The system and method comprise a plurality of Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems configured to capture patient data for a plurality of general patients at a plurality of corresponding healthcare provider sites during encounters with those patients, a research system configured to generate one or more electronic documents for completion with patient data that is related to the medical research, and an enhanced services server built on the same architecture as the plurality of EHR systems, wherein the one or more electronic documents include one or more first fields and one or more second fields for completion with patient data that is related to the medical research and the enhanced services server is in electronic data communication with the plurality of EHR systems and the one or more research systems via a network connection. Qualifying patients are identified from among the plurality of general patients and the first fields in each of the electronic documents are automatically populated with patient data for a corresponding qualifying patient. The one or more electronic documents that were automatically populated with patient data is electronically transmitted to at least one EHR system via the network connection, and the at least one EHR system is used to complete the second fields in each of the electronic documents during subsequent patient encounters. The completed electronic documents are electronically transmitted from the at least one EHR system to the enhanced services server, which electronically transmits the completed electronic documents back to the research system via the network connection.

Abstract:
An integrated medical software system with a patient scheduling module for scheduling patient visits is disclosed. The module comprises a section where a user adds and removes clinical and administrative flags that are associated with patients and that are displayed as reminders when the patients schedule visits, said clinical flags alerting the user to a patient's medical issue that requires special attention and said administrative flags alerting the user to a patient's clerical issue that requires special attention, and a section where the user schedules equipment and a clinician for an appointment with a patient by performing the steps of selecting the patient at a first display point and the equipment at a second display point, said first and second display points being defined by different images that are viewable on a user interface display, and dragging the patient and the equipment to a third display point, said third display point being defined by an available time in the clinician's schedule that is viewable on the user interface display.
