A solid component containing mixing container is provided having a mouth designed to accept the spout of a cooperable liquid container and maintain the liquid container in an inverted discharge position in the mouth of the solid component container. The method includes regulating the rate of discharge from the liquid container into the mixing container by maintaining a flow retarding liquid seal at the point of discharge at the desired maximum liquid level within the solid mixing container.

    摘要: Economical and effective cap sensitive explosive compositions are manufactured by combining appropriate proportions of a noncap sensitive organic liquid containing oxidizing groups with a porous substrate. The preferred liquid is nitromethane or nitromethane diluted with a hydrocarbon. The preferred substrate is a finely divided ionic nitrate powder. The explosive compositions are rendered cap sensitive and highly brisant by providing a substrate which disperses the organic liquid while maintaining this fluid in intimate contact with dispersed air. The preferred finely divided ionic nitrate substrates used in the present invention are prepared by grinding to the desired particle size, preferably less than 500 microns.

    摘要: An economical and effective explosive composition is manufactured by combining appropriate proportions of activated ammonium nitrate, a fuel and preferably a sensitizer. The preferred fuel is a liquid hydrocarbon derivative or a liquid or solid hydrocarbon derivative which is soluble in the sensitizer and which has a fuel value greater than that of the sensitizer. The preferred sensitizers are nitroalkane, or dinitroaromatic compounds most preferably nitromethane. The explosive composition is made more effective through an activation procedure upon the ammonium nitrate. The ammonium nitrate utilized with the present invention is in the form of prills, porous spherical pellets. These prills can be activated by adding a small amount of water to the prills, thoroughly mixing the water so that it is all absorbed, heating the prills to an elevated temperature, evaporating the water from the prills, and then preferably cooling the prills.
