A retractable animal leash assembly including a housing suitable for being held in one hand is disclosed, with a freely moveable, but, if desired, lockable leash being arranged partially coiled within the housing, this housing mounting a brake key operable by the holding hand for momentarily blocking the portion of the leash located outside the holding at a desired length with a brake lock mechanism for holding the brake key in the locking position. This brake lock mechanism comprises a two-armed lever arranged to be moved between two positions on the housing reachable by the same finger/thumb of the holding hand, the handling of this pivoted lever occurring in an ergonomically optimal manner.

A device (10, 36, 39) for rolling up and unrolling a leash, especially for leading an animal, includes a leash roller (11) and a blocking device (22), which has an actuating element (37) and a locking element (26). The leash roller (11) can be actuated by the blocking device (22) for blocking an unrolling motion of the leash roller (11). The actuating element (37) can be actuated by an actuation motion. A locking motion of the locking element (26) can be triggered for blocking the unrolling motion of the leash roller (11) based on the actuation motion of the actuating element (37). Generation of a disturbing noise, with the blocking device, is avoided by the actuation motion of the device (10, 36, 39) being transferred by a transfer device (23) into a locking motion of the locking element (26) that is greater than the actuation motion.

An attachment for securing a leash on a roll is provided. The roll is attached rotatably in a housing, whose wall facing the roll is arranged at a separation from the peripheral surface of the roll. The leash passes through an opening in the wall out of the housing and is attached on the roll via a terminal loop. The loop is formed by a folded-over terminal leash section that is secured to the leash itself. According to the invention, it is proposed that with formation of the loop, the attachment of the leash end to the leash lies in or in front of the opening in the pull-out direction outside the housing in the fully unwound state of the leash.

A leash assembly having a strap or leash that can be reeled or unreeled for walking animals. The assembly has a handle and a housing attached thereto in which the strap is arranged on a turnable roller device for being reeled or unreeled. The assembly also includes a brake key that can stop and prevent rotation of the roller device to restrict a part of the strap extending externally of the housing to a desired length. In addition, the assembly includes an exit opening through which the strap extends externally of the housing. Preferably, the exit opening is formed as a slit, and the slit has a central region along its longitudinal extension that has an enlarged opening porfion extending laterally from at least one side of the slit.

A braking device for a rope pulley of a mechanically retractable and extendable leash for walking animals is provided. The rope pulley is supported in a housing such that it is rotatable in an unwinding direction against the force of a spring and in a wind-up direction under the influence of the spring force and cooperates with a brake button of the braking device in order to stop rotation of the rope pulley. The rope pulley is connected to a brake disk that is rotatable relative to the rope pulley against a damping force and that can be locked to the housing.

The invention relates to a retractable animal leash assembly including a housing suitable for being held in one hand, an unwindable leash arranged partially coiled within the housing, a brake which is operable by the holding hand for momentarily blocking the portion of the leash located outside the housing at a desired length and a brake lock mechanism for holding the brake in the blocking position. The brake lock mechanism is activated with operating levers arranged in two positions on the housing reachable by the holding hand. Thus the housing can be held in either the left or the right hand without degradation of function and the prolonged switch may be easily and quickly operated by the holding hand or its fingers.
