A small-size gamma camera is capable of reliably and quickly detecting the accumulated position of a radiation source in an examinee. When the examinee is scanned with the gamma camera which has an area sensor comprising 256 (16×16) semiconductor detecting elements, display elements of a display unit on a rear panel of the gamma camera are turned on to display a pattern indicative of the accumulated position of the radiation source. According to the displayed pattern on the display elements, the operator of the gamma camera moves the gamma camera to detect the accumulated position of the radiation source reliably within a short period of time.

The MR signal acquisition section excites an MR phenomenon in a portion including a selected slice of an object to be examined, and detects MR signals generated by the MR phenomenon. The imaging processing section processes the MR signals to form an image based on MR data in the selected slice of the object. The control signal generating section generates a control signal for acquiring the MR signals in response to movement of the object. The control section controls the MR excitation operation and the MR signal acquisition operation of the MR signal acquisition section in accordance with the control signal.

Gamma rays obtained from radioisotope administered to an examinee are detected by a gamma ray information-detecting unit so that a first tomographic image obtained therefrom is formed on a CRT. Further, a second tomographic image of the examinee detected by using an ultrasonic wave information-detecting unit juxtaposed with respect to the gamma ray information-detecting unit is formed while making the second tomographic image overlap on the first tomographic image. Thus, it is possible to obtain a tomographic image in which relative positional relationship of tissue is clear.
