Devices, systems and methods for controlling the coating of a sample are disclosed. The exemplary system may have a manufacturing device for providing a sample with one or more sample characteristics associated with one or more coating characteristics. The exemplary system may have a sample sensor for determining the one or more sample characteristics and a manufacturing controller for controlling the manufacturing device and controlling the one or more characteristics of the sample provided by the manufacturing device based on the determined one or more sample characteristics. The exemplary system may also have a coating device for providing coating to the sample with the one or more coating characteristics; a coating sensor for determining the one or more coating characteristics; and a coating controller for controlling the coating device and controlling the one or more characteristics of the coating provided by the coating device based on the determined one or more coating characteristics.

The invention relates to a method in the process of manufacturing and/or finishing a fibre web, in which method said continuous and moving web, and/or a moving means related to the processing of the web, is monitored by at least one optical spectrum separating measurement device to determine at least one quality variable of said object for the purpose of controlling the quality or condition. According to the invention, spectral data is collected in synchronization with the movement from the object which is being examined and is in a progressive and/or rotating movement, by measuring electromagnetic radiation, which has been transmitted, reflected, or otherwise emitted by the object, in a temporally and spatially resolved manner. On the basis of this spectral data, a two-dimensional quality variable chart is formed, which is substantially continuous in the direction of movement of the object and presents at least one quality variable of the object, and in order to determine the characteristics of the object and/or to detect defects in the object from said continuous quality variable chart, local deviations and/or discontinuities are detected in said continuous quality variable chart, especially in the direction of movement. The cause of these deviations and/or discontinuities is identified on the basis of the periodicity of said phenomena in the direction of movement.

An arrangement for measuring properties of a moving paper web. The arrangement comprises measuring means for measuring paper properties, in connection with which a plane-like support surface is arranged. The plane-like support surface supports the paper web and extends substantially over the whole width of the paper web in the cross-direction relative to the direction of travel of the paper web. An opening arrangement formed by at least one opening is arranged on the support surface for measuring properties of the paper web.
Abstract:
A method and an apparatus for controlling a moisture profile of a paper web, in which the moisture profile of the paper web prior to drying is measured. The measurement is carried out with a measuring device, which measures a cross-direction profile of the web substantially simultaneously. On the basis of the measurement, the moisture profile of the paper web is controlled prior to drying the paper web.

A method of controlling the quality and/or condition of a fibre web in a process for manufacturing and/or finishing the fibre web, which includes, monitoring the fibre web with at least one optical spectrum separating measurement device, determining a quality variable of the fibre web, measuring electromagnetic radiation reflected from the fibre web using an optical spectrum separating measurement device synchronously with a movement of the fibre web, and measurements in the form of spectral data, generating a continuous quality variable chart, dividing the continuous quality variable chart into successive matched partial charts having a cycle length, detecting deviations and/or discontinuities of the quality variable from the successive matched partial charts, and detecting malfunctioning of a rotating/moving means using the detected deviations and/or discontinuities of the quality variable.

In a paper machine which comprises process elements and a measuring beam, the measuring beam is arranged at least at one paper machine process element so that a measuring device for measuring quality properties of a paper web is arrangeable in the measuring beam. The paper machine process element is e.g. a blow box, which is arrangeable in a dryer unit of the paper machine between drying cylinders to blow air via at least one blow air channel provided in the blow box to guide the moving paper web and/or to assist drying.

A method and an apparatus for measuring properties of a paper web, whereby at least one property of the paper web is measured at least at two locations in the cross direction of the paper web simultaneously. Adjacent measuring devices are calibrated by traversing a reference sample in the cross direction such that the reference sample is impinged by the measuring beam from each of the measuring devices.
