    摘要: A method and system for using data rate as a basis to allow or deny handoff from an IS-856 (e.g., EV-DO) communication system to an IS-2000 (e.g., 1xRTT) communication system. A base station detects that a hybrid terminal has received a threshold low forward link IS-856 data rate for a threshold time period, and the base station will responsively evaluate the IS-2000 system to determine if the IS-2000 system has sufficient resources to provide at least as good a data rate as the IS-856 threshold data rate. If the base station thereby determines that the IS-2000 system is a good alternative, then the base station will allow a handoff to occur when the terminal seeks to handoff to IS-2000. On the other hand, if the base station thereby determines that the IS-2000 system is not a good alternative, then the base station will not allow the handoff to IS-2000.

    摘要: A method and system are disclosed for reducing pilot pollution in a wireless communication system by systematically (i) identifying areas of sector overlap and (ii) for each area, adjusting power allocation in one or more of the overlapping sectors so as to create a dominant sector and to reduce the total noise from other sectors. A preferred embodiment of the invention involves collecting RF performance data, filtering the data to focus on areas having threshold low forward link data rate, further filtering the data to focus on areas in which the low forward link data rate is likely the result of pilot pollution, selecting a geographic region in which to make a sector power adjustment, and making a sector power adjustment in the selected region in an effort to reduce pilot pollution and increase forward link data rate. The invention is particularly advantageous in a hybrid EV-DO/1xRTT system.

    摘要: A mobile station in an idle state is associated with a current sector-carrier that has a current pilot channel at a current carrier frequency. In response to a request to originate a call, the mobile station compares its current sector-carrier with one or more candidate sector-carriers that have pilot channels at carrier frequencies distinct from the current carrier frequency. The mobile station measures received signal strengths of the current carrier frequency and the one or more candidate carrier frequencies and measures pilot signal levels of the current pilot channel and the one or more candidate pilot channels. If a candidate sector-carrier has a carrier frequency with a received signal strength that exceeds that of the current sector-carrier, and has a pilot channel with a pilot signal level that exceeds that of the current sector-carrier, the mobile station uses that candidate sector-carrier to transmit a call origination message.

    摘要: A method and system for using data rate as a basis to allow or deny handoff from a communication system operating under a first air interface protocol (first protocol system) to a communication system operating under a second air interface protocol (second protocol system). A base station detects that a hybrid terminal has received a threshold low forward link data rate under the first protocol for a threshold time period, and the base station responsively evaluates the second protocol system to determine if the second protocol system has sufficient resources to provide at least as good a data rate as the threshold data rate. If the base station thereby determines that the second protocol system is a good alternative, then the base station will allow a handoff to occur when the terminal seeks to handoff to the second protocol. Otherwise, the base station will not allow the handoff to occur.
