An automatic exposure control camera, with a plurality of selectable control modes, has a display device that normally display an exposure value determined by the control mode and by operating conditions of the automatic exposure control. The user may cause the display device to display a different exposure value, which again depends upon the control mode and the operating conditions of the automatic exposure control. A further display device displays the selected mode and also indicates, as by the blinking of an indicator element, when certain limits of exposure time value or aperture value have been reached (with appropriate modification of the exposure control operation). In one control mode, the automatic exposure control is reprogrammed in association with the selection of shutter speeds.

In an electromagnetic trigger device in a camera capable of effecting time photography, and having a trigger switch, a power source and a motor for driving a shutter driving mechanism, there is provided a restraining lever movable between a restraining position and a non-restraining position. The lever, when in the restraining position, restrains the shutter driving mechanism in fully closed shutter position. A motor switch is adapted to be closed to energize the motor when the restraining lever is in the non-restraining position. A phase switch is parallel-connected to the motor switch and operatively associated with the shutter driving mechanism to be opened in the fully open and the fully closed position of the shutter. An actuating coil is responsive to closing of the trigger switch to be connected to the power source for a predetermined time and thereby energized to attract the restraining lever to the non-restraining position. A selector member is provided for selecting continuous photography and time photography. A holding coil is responsive, during continuous photography, to closing of the trigger switch to be connected to the power source and thereby energized to hold the restraining lever in the non-restraining position. A current generating circuit is provided which includes a timing switch adapted to be opened for a predetermined time from fully opening till fully closing of the shutter. When the trigger switch is opened during continuous photography, the current generating circuit flows a current through the timing switch to maintain the holding coil energized to hold the lever in the non-restraining position.

A flash exposure apparatus for eliminating red-eye effect employs first and second flash devices in conjunction with a camera. The camera outputs a first release signal prior to an exposure operation and a second release signal in synchronism with the exposure operation. A detecting device detects completion of preparation (charging) of flash light emission of the flash devices. When the completion of preparation of flash light emission of both flash devices is detected, the first and second flash devices are caused to emit light in response to the first and second release signals, respectively. When the completion of preparation of flash light emission of only one flash device is detected, only that flash device is caused to emit light in response to the second release signal. In another embodiment a main flash device emits light for illuminating an object, and an auxiliary flash device emits light, prior to emission by the main flash device, to decrease the pupil diameter of a human eye. A detecting device detects the focal length of a photo-taking lens, and the emission energy of the auxiliary flash device is increased as the detected focal length becomes longer.
