Abstract: A chain drive for driving two adjacent parallel shafts, such as two overhead camshafts in an internal combustion engine, includes a drive chain guided by a drive mechanism and chain wheels mounted on the shafts. The chain wheels are axially offset and overlap each other. At least one support wheel on one shaft is associated with the chain wheel on the other shaft. An edge area of the part of the chain which does not engage a chain wheel is guided and supported on the shaft by the support wheel.
