    Abstract: A tape measure includes a housing with first and second housing portions; a reel configured to be secured between the first and second housing portions, the reel containing a tape blade wound thereon and partially extending therefrom terminating in a hook portion; and an integral component coupled to the first and second housing portions, including an aperture defining a finger brake, the finger brake exposing the tape blade for engagement by a user. The tape blade is biased to retract into the housing, winding around the reel, such that in a fully retracted position the hook portion abuts the portion of the mouth of the tape measure. In an extended position the tape blade is unwound from the reel such that the hook extends away from the integral component. An integral component including an aperture defining a tape measure mouth and a light emitter receiving slot is also disclosed.

    Abstract: A utility knife includes a handle base and a neck connected to the handle base for pivotal movement relative to the handle base between a closed position and an open position. The knife also includes a utility blade holder slidingly carried by the neck for sliding movement relative to the neck between a retracted position and an extended position. A utility blade is carried by the blade holder such that movement of the utility blade holder between its extended and retracted positions moves the utility blade between an exposed position in which a cutting edge of the blade is exposed, and a protected position in which the cutting edge of the blade is protected by the neck.

    Abstract: A tape measure comprises a housing containing a tape, spring, reel, and hub, with first seal(s) to seal between the reel cartridge and the hub and/or to seal between the reel and the housing and/or a part fixed to the housing. An outermost coil of the spring may extend out of an opening in the reel and be attached to an innermost coil of the tape, and a second seal may be provided on the reel, to seal between the spring and the reel where the spring extends from the reel. Alternatively, the spring may be contained within the reel, and an outermost coil of the spring may be attached to an interior of the reel. An exterior of the reel may include an attachment portion to which an innermost coil of the tape is attached. The housing may be openable to enable contaminants to be removed from the housing.

    Abstract: An abrasive belt device includes first and second rollers that accommodate an abrasive belt to define a sanding surface, and a lever usable to modify a distance between the rollers. The abrasive belt device also defines an opening through which the belt passes during installation or removal. In a first lever position, the rollers are separated by a first distance that allows the installation or the removal of the belt, and the opening is not covered by the lever, thereby permitting a portion of the belt to pass through the opening.
