    摘要： A machine for printing money orders and like instruments including a frame, means defining a printing line, individually adjustable type segment members supported by the frame and having numerical printing characters thereon ranging from zero to numbers greater than zero positionable on the printing line, an inking roller supported for movement into contact with printing characters disposed on the printing line, a platen underlying the printing line and movable to engage an instrument disposed between the platen and printing characters on the printing line, an operating handle movable from a nonprinting to a printing position for effecting operative movement of the inking roller and platen, and control lever means for preventing movement of the inking roller into contact with the printing characters on the printing line unless at least one of the type segment members is positioned such that a printing character thereon greater than zero is disposed on the printing line.

    摘要： A platen assembly for use with a money order printing machine or the like having a frame, means defining a printing line, type segments having printing characters positionable on the printing line and an operating lever. The platen assembly comprises a platen supported by rocker arms, and actuating mechanism means interconnecting the rocker arms with the operating lever. The actuating mechanism includes compression springs disposed between the rocker arms and the operating lever and control links adapted to selectively prevent rocking movement of the platen support arms. Initial movement of the operating lever toward a printing position creates potential energy through compression of the springs, which energy is released as the operating lever is moved substantially to its printing position and releases the control links thereby effecting impact movement of the platen into pressure contact with an instrument disposed between the platen and the printing line.

    摘要： An index bar for use with check writers and money order printing machines and the like having frame means defining a printing line and a plurality of type segments adjustable to position printing characters on the printing line. The index bar includes an elongated body supported by the frame and having a plurality of transverse bores each of which receives a ball detent for operative association with a rack portion of a corresponding type segment to releasably maintain the type segment in a selected position. Certain of the bores are disposed in offset spatial relation relative to the next adjacent bores to allow the type segments associated with the offset bores to be supported in closer spaced relation than is possible with the bores aligned longitudinally along the index bar. One embodiment of the index bar has the axes of the offset bores disposed in parallel relation, while an alternative embodiment disposes the axes of the offset bores in radial alignment with the axis of rotation of the type segment members.
