    Abstract: Luminaires, floodlights and spotlights having a light shield comprised of a flexible material are disclosed. The flexible light shield has a slit in its majority and presents a low wind loading factor when used for a high mast luminaire that is subjected to wind speeds from 60 to 100 miles per hour typically experienced in storms or hurricanes. The flexible light shield is readily adapted to meet the light distribution needs of various other lighting units.

    Abstract: Composite coating on aluminum article comprising base layer formed from alkali metal silicate compound and outer layer formed of a dispersion of colloidal silica and a silicone resin is tightly adherent to the aluminum surface, provides protection from corrosion and is abrasion resistant. Improved aluminum reflectors are made by suitably brightening the surface to provide a highly specular reflective surface, applying a base coating of a silicate solution on the thus treated surface, heating the thus applied base coating to remove the chemically bound water therefrom, rinsing the base coating to remove alkali metal ions therefrom, applying an outer coating of the colloidal-silica-silicone resin composition, and drying the latter coating.

    Abstract: A luminaire comprising separable means arrangement for hingedly mounting a refractor on the rim of the reflector of the luminaire is disclosed. The separable means is comprised of a hinge clip having two hooked extensions at one side which engage raised slotted sections located at each end of a split clampband. The hooked extensions of the hinge clip are removably retained in the raised slotted sections and cannot be easily backed out. The hinge clip is self retained to the clampband by means of an interaction between a resilient gasket and the clampband. The gasket is positioned inside of the clampband and exerts an outward force on the clampband and provides effective sealing between the clampband and the refractor and between the clampband and the reflector flange. The other side of the hinge clip has means for hingedly mounting the refractor to the reflector.

    Abstract: This lighting fixture enclosure comprises a back housing and an adjacent front housing separable from the back housing. The back housing includes a base; and the front housing includes a cavity in front of the base and a wall partially surrounding the cavity and terminating in a free end adjacent the base. The back housing includes a cradle on said base for receiving a peripheral portion of one end of a wire feed-through conduit. The front housing includes a notch in the free end of said wall for receiving another peripheral portion of the conduit. A projecting leg on said front-housing wall receives clamping means which, upon operation, forces the front housing toward the back-housing base, loading the leg in a bending mode, and also clamping the conduit end between said cradle and the wall portion bordering the notch.
