Abstract: AN UNLOADING LADING FROM THE BOTTOM DISCHARGE OUTLET ON EITHER SIDE OF A COVERED HOPPER RIALWAY CAR. A CONVEYOR STRUCTURE HAVING WHEELS THEREON IS ROLLED BENEATH THE BOTTOM DISCHARGE OUTLET AND OUTWARDLY PROJECTING HORIZONTAL FLANGES ON THE UPPER SURFACE OF THE CONVEYOR STRUCTURE MATCH INTERFITTING INWARDLY PROJECTING FLANGES ON THE BOTTOM OUTLET WHICH EXTEND IN A DIRECTION TRANSVERSELY OF THE CAR. THE FLANGES ON THE CONVEYOR STRUCTURE SLIDE ALONG THE UPPER SURFACES OF THE INTERFITTING FLANGES ON THE BOTTOM OUTLET TO POSITION THE CONVEYOR ACURRATELY WITH RESPECT TO THE OUTLET. RELEASABLE LATCH MEANS RETAINS CONVEYOR IN POSI-

TION BENEATH THE BOTTOM OUTLET. THE CONVEYOR STRUCTURE INCLUDES A HORIZONTAL PORTION DIRECTLY BENEATH THE OUTLET AND AN UPWARDLY INCLINED PORTION INTEGRAL WITH THE HORIZONTAL PORTION. A WHEELED FRAME IS MOUNTED FOR SLIDING MOVEMENT ALONG THE UPWARDLY INCLINED PORTION TO ADJUST THE HEIGHT OF THE CONVEYOR.

Abstract: A gas inflatable bag is mounted on the slope sheet of a covered hopper car adjacent the bottom discharge outlet. The bag is secured along its upper marginal portion to the slope sheet and upon inflation bulges outwardly into the hopper. Upon deflation of the bag when a bulk commodity, such as potatoes, is carried by the hopper, the space previously occupied by the inflated bag is reoccupied by the bulk commodity thereby to aid in discharging any of the bulk commodity tending to bridge over the discharge opening.

Abstract: A lower cover for a bottom discharge outlet structure of a hopper, particularly for a covered hopper railway car, positioned beneath a butterfly valve which controls the discharge of lading from the hopper. A locking arm is pivotally carried from the underside of the cover and a cam type lock is effected between the ends of the locking arm which extend beyond the cover and coacting lugs on the adjacent housing whereby upon rotation of the arm in one direction when the cover is beneath the bottom discharge opening the cover is drawn tightly against the housing in generally air-tight relation to releasably lock the cover in position. Upon rotation of the locking arm in an opposite direction, the cover is released and may be pivoted to an open position remote from the discharge opening to permit the gravity unloading of lading.
