Abstract: A hydrous calcium silicate compsed preponderantly of xonotlite of the shape of rod crystals is produced by adding 0.05 to 3 percent by weight of an alkali to a substantially equimolar mixed slurry of silicic acid and calcium oxide and subjecting the resultant mixture to hydrothermal reaction at 200* to 250* C under the pressure of saturated steam.
