摘要: An electrosurgical system comprises a generator and an instrument including a first electrode, a second electrode, and an insulating spacer separating the first and second electrodes. The generator repeatedly measures a characteristic of the radio frequency output such as the impedance between the first and second electrodes. The generator analyses the impedance measurements, and interrupts the radio frequency signal when the rate of change of the impedance is such as to indicate the onset of a “flare-out”. In this way, the power is reduced before the flare-out leads to permanent damage or failure of the instrument.

摘要: An arthroscopic bone burr having an articulated sheath tube. The sheath tube may be articulated angularly and transversely relative to the housing by a ball-type joint, a flange-in-socket joint with sufficient play to permit displacement of the sheath tube, or by use of an elastomer. Anti-rotation means are provided to prevent the sheath tube from rotating relative to the housing.

摘要: A surgical retrieval apparatus includes a housing having an elongated sleeve extending therefrom that, together, cooperate to define a lumen extending therethrough. A shaft having an end effector assembly disposed at a distal end thereof is selectively translatable between a first position, wherein the end effector assembly is disposed within the sleeve, and a second position, wherein the end effector assembly extends distally from the sleeve. A specimen retrieval bag is releasably coupled to the end effector assembly and is deployable to an extended position upon movement of the end effector assembly from the first to the second position.

摘要: A surgical access assembly configured and dimensioned for positioning within an intercostal space defined between a patient's adjacent ribs to facilitate passage of a surgical instrument into an internal work site. The surgical access assembly includes a body portion that may be either partially or wholly formed from a resilient material such that the surgical access assembly is resiliently deformable to facilitate conformity with the intercostal space in order to minimize the application of force to the patient's tissue upon insertion and removal of the access assembly and manipulation of the surgical instrument.
