The components of cryostats are interconnected by means of tension members which are frequently made from a fiber glass reinforced plastic material. Such members, which exhibit a rectangular cross-section and bores for receiving the mounting bolts have shown to be not fully reliable because they tend to break easily in the areas of the bores. Consequently, loop-like tension members have been frequently used; but their production is expensive and connected with considerable production tolerances. The invention proposes to use a tension member which is cut out from a plastic sheet material reinforced by a fiber glass weave, and which comprises an elongated portion (21) with parallel edges, followed on both ends by enlarged areas (22) with bores (25) for the mounting bolts. The transition between the central area (21) and the enlarged areas (22) is formed by a transition portion (23) with arc-shaped edges (24). The tension members can be fastened directly on the walls of the components to be interconnected, by means of screws. The resilience of the sheet material enables spaces directed vertically to the plane of the sheet material of the tension member to be bridged.

The invention relates to a device (10) and a method for rotating a flame and/or a plume of smoke, arranged with a heat source (36) in a chamber (16) with at least one gas inlet opening (24, 26, 30) and a gas outlet opening (32). The gas inlet opening (24, 26, 30) and the heat source (36) are located in a lower area (12, 20′) of the chamber (16). The gas outlet opening (32) is located in an upper region (14) of the chamber (1.6). In this way, an ascending gas flow may be generated in the chamber (16). At least one gas inlet channel or nozzle (24, 26, 30, 40) is adapted to direct inflowing gas therethrough into the lower area (12, 20′) of the chamber (16) approximately along an inner wall of the chamber about an at least approximately circular path following along the inner wall in the same rotational sense around the heat source and then is drawn upwardly by a draw of the upwardly flowing heated gases though the gas outlet opening (32). A flame or smoke plume inside the chamber (16) can thereby be placed into a rotary motion.

The invention provides a cryostat whose components are detachably connected to each other. Each of the tanks (1, 7) is equipped with only one radial pipe (15 or 16) arranged at the end of the tank (1, 7). Each of the inner components (3, 7) is provided, at its end neighboring the pipe (15), with a detachable cover (5, 9), and provided with a recess (31, 71) into which the pipe (15) can be introduced from the end of the component. The jacket (11) is divided in a plane neighboring the pipes (15, 16). The shorter section (45) comprises a recess for the pipes (15, 16) passing through the jacket, and a connection for a tower (19) enclosing the pipes. This makes it possible to do without any welded connections between those sections of the concentrically arranged components which pass through each other. These welded connections, which heretobefore were necessary, led to structures whose individual components could not be separated from each other without destructive manipulations and which further provided the disadvantage that the heat developed by the welding operations had detrimental effects on the application of a super-insulation.
