    摘要: Methods and systems are provided for dynamic determination of EV-DO control-channel bit rate based on forward-link timeslot utilization. Service is provided to access terminals on a carrier in a wireless coverage area. The carrier comprises timeslots that can be active or idle. Active timeslots comprise a data channel; idle timeslots do not. The data channel is arranged to transmit user-traffic information, and also to transmit control-channel information at a bit rate that can be set to a first or second value, where the second value is greater than the first value. A number of active timeslots on the carrier in the coverage area over a time period is determined. It is further determined whether that number is less than a threshold number. If so, the bit rate is set to the first value; if not, the bit rate is set to the second value.

In an exemplary embodiment, a base station provides service on a carrier in a wireless coverage area. The base station computes an Ec/Ior value for the carrier. Based at least in part on the computed Ec/Ior value, the base station adjusts at least one of an initial traffic-channel power level, a minimum traffic-channel power level, and a maximum traffic-channel power level for the carrier. As an example, if Ec/Ior is above a certain threshold, the base station may increase all three of the power levels, so as to improve service quality and coverage of its traffic channels, among other advantages.

    摘要: Methods and systems are provided for prioritized EV-DO paging based on type of packet flow. In an embodiment, an access node provides service to a plurality of access terminals in a wireless coverage area. The access node receives data addressed to a particular access terminal, where the data is associated with a packet flow such as a VoIP call. The access node determines that the access terminal does not have a traffic channel, and responsively generates a page for transmission to the access terminal, where the page is associated with the packet flow. The access node determines whether the packet flow is latency-sensitive or rather is latency-tolerant. If the packet flow is latency-sensitive, the access node responsively prioritizes the page over one or more pages respectively associated with one or more latency-tolerant packet flows, where the prioritizing is with respect to order of transmission in the wireless coverage area.

In an exemplary embodiment, a base station provides a wireless coverage area having a plurality of traffic channels, an SCH, an SCH queue, and an SCH burst duration initially set to a first value. The base station computes Ec/Ior for the coverage area, and determines (i) whether the computed Ec/Ior is greater than an RF threshold, (ii) whether the number of mobile stations in the SCH queue is less than a queue threshold, and (iii) whether the number of mobile stations having a traffic channel in the coverage area is less than a traffic-channel threshold. The base station determines a second value based at least in part on each of those determinations, and operates with the SCH burst duration set to the second value.

Based at least in part on the Ec/Ior value and at least in part on the RNR value, the base station adjusts at least one of a pilot-channel power level, a paging-channel power level, and a sync-channel power level for the carrier. As an example, if (a) Ec/Ior is above a first threshold and (b) RNR is below a second threshold, the base station may increase all three of the power levels, so as to improve service quality and coverage, among other advantages.
