摘要： The present invention relates generally to a novel galectin and to derivatives, homologues, analogues, chemical equivalents and mimetics thereof capable of modulating an immune response and, in particularly, an inflammatory response. More particularly, the present invention relates to ecalectin-like galectin (herein referred to as “galectin-14”) and to derivatives, homologues, analogues, chemical equivalents and mimetics of said protein sequence. The present invention also contemplates genetic sequences encoding said galectin and derivatives, homologues, analogues, chemical equivalents and mimetics thereof. The molecules of the present invention are useful in a range of therapeutic, prophylactic and diagnostic applications.
