    摘要: A system and method for configuring and managing the connectivity of a broadband, cable modem network station to a network, including a state-driven network manager having a centralized error handling state and peripheral states for initialization, dynamic host configuration, configuration download, start simple-network-management, and an operational state. The operational state monitors for error and other messages communicated from other states and sends error messages to the centralized error-handling state and request messages to an operational support system interface management task. The error handling state receives error messages and requests error event logging from the operational support system interface management task. A change upstream-or-downstream channel task optimizes channel selection. The method includes initializing the network station to a predetermined set of parameters; creating and starting a dynamic-host-configuration protocol task; creating and starting a time-of-day task; creating and starting a configuration download task; creating and starting a simple-network-management protocol task; entering an operational state upon successful initialization of the network station and connectivity with the network, and, while in the operational state, monitoring the tasks for messages, including error messages and task messages; receiving error messages and initiating error recovery in response to the error messages; and receiving request messages and sending request messages to the operational support system interface management task.

    摘要: A system architecture for a high speed serial bus compatible with the 1394 standard is disclosed. A transaction interface coordinates data packets received from or sent to a 1394 bus. A kernel/scheduler/dispatcher is used to allocate memory resources, and start a variety of tasks and services. The tasks and services vary depending on protocols used in a transport layer and application layer used in conjunction with the 1394 layers. Each task operates according to a state machine progression. The transaction interface uses information derived from the data packets received to form message control blocks, particular for each individual task, and places the control blocks into the proper task queue. The transaction interface forms a dispatcher message control block and places it into the scheduler/dispatcher queue to initiate the task. If there are no other message control blocks in the queue particular for the called task, the called task is immediately started. Otherwise, the message control block waits in the queue to eventually be operated on.

    摘要: A network station subsystem architecture that uses a simplified interface reference discovery method and system is provided. In one embodiment a method for managing client-server communications is disclosed that includes providing a server with functions and interface methods; providing a client with references to the interface methods; and processing client requests by invoking the interface methods on the server via the references. Ideally, the interface methods are implemented by providing the server with a table of pointers to the functions, and providing the client with references to the table of pointers, ideally at the time of design. In another embodiment, a system for managing communications in a network station for a data-over-cable network having a plurality of network stations is provided. The system includes a plurality of components in the network station, each of the plurality of components having a functionality set and a table of pointers for the functionality set; a station manager having references to the tables of pointers in the plurality of components; and an interface manager for communication with the plurality of components and the station manager, the interface manager configured to process station manager requests for functionality from the components through the interface manager via the references to the tables of pointers.
