Abstract: A computer implemented method for filtering portions of an image comprises the following steps carried out by computer hardware components: dividing the image into a plurality of segments, each segments comprising a plurality of pixels; for each of the segments, determining at least one of an expected value, a standard deviation, and a kurtosis of the plurality of pixels of the respective segment; clustering the plurality of segments into a plurality of clusters based on the at least one of the expected value, the standard deviation, and the kurtosis of the plurality of pixels of the respective segment; for each of the clusters, determining the respective cluster as belonging to a background based on a size of the respective cluster; and determining a filtered image based on the background.
