Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved process for preparing 2,4-dichloro-6-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1,3,5-triazine (DICAT) comprising reacting 4-bromoanisole with magnesium, and reacting the resulting Grignard reagent with cyanuric chloride, wherein the magnesium comprises additional metals as impurities in an amount of less than 0.027% by weight, based on the total weight of the magnesium.
