Abstract:
Thermoplastic branched aromatic polycarbonates and novel orthoester branching agents. The polycarbonates may be characterized by structural elements of the formula
Abstract:
A process is provided for making high molecular weight halosubstituted aromatic polycarbonates in a phase boundary reaction in which an o,o,o'',o''-tetrahalogenobisphenol and phosgene are reacted in an aqueous medium at a pH of 7 to 9 in the presence of from 2 mol% to 20 mol% catalyst in a first step and the resulting product is polycondensed at a pH of at least about 13 in a second step.
Abstract:
Process for the preparation of polycarbonate solutions that are particularly suitable for the production of filaments and films. The solutions are prepared by precipitating polycarbonates, in a largely crystalline form, from their solutions in polycarbonate solvents by adding specified precipitants to the solutions and thereafter redissolving the precipitated polycarbonates in their solutions by evaporating off the precipitants.
Abstract:
The invention is related to the production of the solution of a high molecular weight polycarbonate having a molecular weight above 30,000 suitable for the production of films and filaments. The process comprises subjecting the solid polycarbonates solutions obtained by solvent removal from polycarbonate solutions at temperatures below the melting point of said polycarbonate coupled with the application of shear energy for 0.1 to 50 hours to a solvent atmosphere of solvents which are able to dissolve polycarbonates and subsequently redissolving the thus obtained products.
