Abstract: The invention comprises dyes of the formula wherein R is alkyl or hydroxyalkyl, X is halogen, alkyl, alkoxy or hydroxy-alkoxy and n is 0, 1, 2 or 3, which are made by reacting a 1-amino-2-halo -4 - hydroxy - anthraquinone with an alkylmercaptophenol in the presence of a strongly alkaline compound. Examples are given. The dyes dye linear polyesters in red shades from aqueous dispersion.
