Abstract: A method for verifying authorization for package transfer including: scanning attribute data from the package using optical character recognition, the package containing the attribute data and a payment verification code on at least one face; applying a message authentication code algorithm to the attribute data using a software key to reproduce an encoded message authentication code; comparing the reproduced message authentication code to the payment verification code on the at least one face of the package; and verifying that transfer of the package is authorized based on the comparing.
