Abstract: A system for transferring information from a plurality of data stations to a central station such as a computer. A novel data controller couples the computer to a plurality of master stations, some of which may in turn be coupled to a set of slave stations, for communicating with the master stations. The data controller operates in three phases - a load phase in which a station address and instructions are loaded into the controller either from the computer or an internal memory within the data controller, an execute phase in which the data controller communicates with the addressed stations and a transfer phase in which the received information is transferred by the data controller to the computer or, if it is malfunctioning, to auxiliary storage devices. Any of a number of unique master stations can be used in the system. A slave multiplexer operates to interrogate a number of associated slave stations of varying types and convey the information thus derived to the data controller when queried. An interactive keyboard permits manual entry of information which is then conveyed to the data controller.
