Abstract: Disclosed is a computer-implemented method for augmented reality spinal rod planning and bending for navigated spine surgery. A proposed spinal rod is determined that is a virtual model of a spinal rod with a desired shape. The proposed spinal rod is determined based on acquired positions of a plurality of spinal screws disposed on a spine of a patient. The spinal screws are configured for receiving a spiral rod interconnecting the plurality of spinal screws. Furthermore, the spinal rod itself is calibrated for tracking by a medical navigation device. This allows displaying the proposed spinal rod by an augmented reality device, thereby overlaying the tracked spinal rod with the proposed spinal rod. Thus, the proposed method inter alia provides the surgeon with improved information about the bending state of the spinal rod.

Abstract: A medical tracking method for tracking a spatial position of a medical instrument within a medical workspace including an anatomical structure of a patient. The method includes: acquiring, using a first camera targeted on the medical workspace, instrument position data describing a spatial position of the medical instrument with respect to a first camera; acquiring, using a second camera and at least one optical tracking marker that is adapted to be recognized by the second camera, camera position data describing a spatial position of the first camera with respect to the anatomical structure, determining, based on the instrument position data and the camera position data, tracking data describing the spatial position of the medical instrument with respect to the anatomical structure; and tracking the spatial position of the medical instrument within the medical workspace using the tracking data.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method of relating a position (pos(selected)) of an anatomical structure (3) and a position of an image feature representing the anatomical structure in a medical image (11), the method being constituted to be executed by a computer and comprising: a) acquiring information about the position of a medical imaging apparatus (1) at the beginning (pos(start)) and at the end (pos(end)) of acquiring medical image information describing a medical image (11) of at least a part of a patient's body (2) comprising the anatomical structure (3), wherein the medical imaging apparatus (1) is moved while it is used for acquiring the medical image information; b) acquiring imaging information about a relationship between the movement of the medical imaging apparatus and the acquisition of the medical image information; c) acquiring, based on the position of the medical imaging apparatus at the beginning (pos(start)) and at the end (pos(end)) of acquiring the medical image information, information about a predominant direction of movement (z) of the medical imaging apparatus (1); d) acquiring information about the position of a pointer means (12) in the predominant direction of movement (z); e) determining, based on the information about the position of the medical imaging apparatus (1) at the beginning (pos(start)) and at the end (pos(end)) of acquiring the medical image information and based on the information about the position of the pointer means (12) and based on the imaging information, information about a transformation between the position in the medical image (11) of an image feature representing the anatomical structure (3) and the position of the anatomical structure (3) in a navigation reference system (17).

Abstract: The disclosed method encompasses moving an object such as a medical device or instrument to a desired spatial position based on tracking data provided by a tracking system. Once it is determined from the tracking data that the object has reached the desired spatial position, a projection image is generated, which is registered with the desired spatial position and shows the object. Based on the image data, it is possible to verify whether the object has actually reached the desired position, or whether the object's actual position deviates from the desired position due to errors or inaccuracies, allowing measures to be taken to compensate for these errors or inaccuracies.
