A method for combating pests in open water or in muddy moist soil comprises applying thereto a compound wherein R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 are phenyl optionally substituted by halogen, nitrile, nitro, alkoxy, alkyl, alkylthio, trifluoromethyl, thiocyanate or acyl; X 1 and X 2 are O or S; and R 4 also may represent an aliphatic group which is saturated or unsaturated and/or interrupted by O or S or with substituted or unsubstituted benzyl or phenylethyl groups; and R 5 is H or as specified for R 4 , or together with R 4 forms an heterocyclic ring, e.g. pyrrolidine, piperidine, morpholine, piperazine, homopiperazine or cyclohexamethyleneimine. Preferred compounds are the triphenyl tin-(N-phenyl-; N,N- dimethyl; and N,N-diethyl) dithiocarbamates. Preparations for use in the method include active compounds adsorbed on concrete, alumina, bricks, slabs, paper and cloth, e.g. alumina plates (Example 3), and admixed with corn starch paste (Example 8).
