Abstract: A tool and method for safe extraction of a pig from the pig receiver of a pipeline enable removal of the pig by an operator standing fully clear of the opening of the pig receiver to avoid potential impact of the operator by the pig in the event of an inadvertent pressurized discharge of the pig from the receiver. The tool may feature one or more mechanisms for adjusting a reach-length of the tool in order to facilitate use on pig traps of different lengths with the same tool.
