When viewed in section, the material thickness of the sealing lip is smaller in a radial direction than the material thickness of a remainder of the casing.

In the state resulting from manufacture, the sealing element has cavities in the region of the sealing edge, which cavities vary in volume during use of the flange seal as intended.
