    Abstract: A blade assembly comprises a moldboard defining an upper moldboard free end and a lower moldboard free end, the lower moldboard free end defining a lower curved mounting surface, and an adapter board defining an upper adapter board attachment portion, and a lower tool bit attachment portion. The upper adapter board attachment portion may include a first peak surface and a second peak surface, the first peak surface and the second peak surface forming a first valley therebetween and being configured to contact the lower curved mounting surface.

    Abstract: An example track shoe, cutting edge, or other component of a machine is formed in a heated process, such as hot-rolling followed by air-hardening. The air-hardening process involves cooling the component by flowing air over the component (e.g., air cooling), such that the component is cooled at a controlled rate. During the air-cooling process, such as in the range of about 250° C. to about 1100° C., the component may be machined, such as by shearing, punching, drilling, etc. The machining may form the final shape of the component. As the air-hardening process is completed, and the component approaches room temperature, the component may have at least 5% bainitic crystal composition, and as high as greater than 80% bainitic crystal composition, resulting in relatively high hardness and fracture toughness. The final track shoe may have a hardness between about 40 HRC and 55 HRC.

    Abstract: A retention system is provided for use in connecting a replaceable tool to a work implement. The retention system may have a generally cylindrical pin with a first hollow end, and a second hollow end located opposite the first hollow end. The retention system may also have a first fastener configured to engage the first hollow end and cause the first hollow end to flare radially outward. The retention system may further have a second fastener configured to engage the second hollow end and cause the second hollow end to flare radially outward.
