摘要： An electro-optical display, utilizing the field effect display, includes a thin layer of liquid crystal material positioned between two plates having electrically conductive segments. The material is a mixture of a selected stilbene, such as trans-4-n-butyl-alpha-chloro-4'-ethoxystilbene and a selected substituted benzylideneaminobenzonitrile, such as p-ethoxy-benzylidene-p'-aminobenzonitrile.

摘要： Improved liquid crystal compositions comprise a major portion by weight of at least three different p-alkoxybenzylidene-p'-aminophenylalkanoates and a minor portion by weight of p-methoxybenzylidene-p'-butylaniline and p-ethoxybenzylidene-p'-butylaniline. The compositions have broader nematic ranges than either ternary mixtures of the alkanoates or binary mixtures of the other two compounds. In addition, when certain dopants are added to the compositions, optimum improvement in properties is obtained using less dopant than that required by prior art compositions.

摘要： Liquid crystal cells containing mixtures of cholesteric optically active p-alkoxybenzylidene-p'-aminobenzonitrile compounds with nematic liquid crystal compounds form cholesteric liquid crystals which change to the nematic stage upon application of an electric field. Electro-optic devices including such liquid crystals have low voltage requirements and rapid response times.
