Abstract: Techniques for adaptive processing of media data based on separate data specifying a state of the media data are provided. A device in a media processing chain may determine whether a type of media processing has already been performed on an input version of media data. If so, the device may adapt its processing of the media data to disable performing the type of media processing. If not, the device performs the type of media processing. The device may create a state of the media data specifying the type of media processing. The device may communicate the state of the media data and an output version of the media data to a recipient device in the media processing chain, for the purpose of supporting the recipient device's adaptive processing of the media data.

Abstract: Methods for generating an AV bitstream (e.g., an MPEG-2 transport stream or bitstream segment having adaptive streaming format) such that the AV bitstream includes at least one video I-frame synchronized with at least one audio I-frame, e.g., including by re-authoring at least one video or audio frame (as a re-authored I-frame or a re-authored P-frame). Typically, a segment of content of the AV bitstream which includes the re-authored frame starts with an I-frame and includes at least one subsequent P-frame. Other aspects are methods for adapting such an AV bitstream, audio/video processing units configured to perform any embodiment of the inventive method, and audio/video processing units which include a buffer memory which stores at least one segment of an AV bitstream generated in accordance with any embodiment of the inventive method.

Abstract: An input media signal that carries input media content is received. The input media content is used to generate output media content in an output media signal. It is determined whether identification-and-timing (IAT) data is to be authored for the output media content. In response to determining that the output IAT data is to be authored for the output media content, output IAT data is authored for the output media content. At least a part of the output IAT data for at least a part of the output media content is encoded, along with the part of the output media content, into the output media signal. In some example scenarios, this output media signal then contains the IAT data and other related data for synchronization of additional media content with the output media content in content rendering/presentation operations.
