A lens and an image sensor make it possible to acquire images, each including a reproduction of a first pattern located against one of the inlet surfaces, and a reproduction of a second imaged pattern through the other inlet surface. Such a device can be used in a biometric detection apparatus for detecting both a skin print and the vein distribution of a user. The device can also be used in a reading terminal capable of detecting a skin print and a machine-readable tape.

The present invention concerns a method and device for detecting the orientation of an area (DO) of the body of an individual placed on an apposition area (AP) of a biometric sensor mounting (P) designed to form a first image (I1) of the area (DO) of the body by total reflection of radiation on the apposition area (AP), and a second image (I2) of the area (DO) of the body from radiation able to pass through the tissues of the body and to be reflected on haemoglobin. The method is characterised in that it comprises a step of determining in a reference frame firstly the longitudinal axis (A) of the area of the body depicted in the first image and secondly two longitudinal edges (B1, B2) of the area of the body depicted in the second image, and a step of determining the orientation of the area of the body with respect to the mounting from the measurement of the relative positions of the two edges (B1, B2) and the axis (A) thus determined in the reference frame. The present invention also concerns a biometric sensor and an installation for identifying an individual comprising such a device.

A peripheral security device is capable of being physically connected to a host terminal, on which is installed at least one software drive that is capable of permitting communication between said host terminal and a peripheral device with a human interface. This peripheral security device comprises a microprocessor capable of sending security data to the terminal during communication with the terminal. It is characterized in that the communication between the peripheral security device and the host terminal is managed at the level of the terminal via the software driver and simulates a communication between the peripheral device with a human interface and the host terminal.
