The cartridge has a powder load greater than 0 grams and not greater than approximately 0.15 grams. The powder load is sufficient to separate said second electrical terminal from said first electrical terminal upon cartridge detonation while minimizing the intensity of the explosive separation upon unintended cartridge detonation.

    摘要: An arrester support and disconnector structure enclosed, in one embodiment, a cylindrical housing having a lower wall with a weakened zone. Electrically conductive members extend through the upper and lower walls of the housing and make electrical connection with the arrester and a ground wire, respectively. Between the conductive members is an explosive charge which is detonated by the passage of excess current, thereby removing the lower member. The cylindrical body has an exterior recess to receive a supporting strap. In another embodiment, the support structure includes an elongated nonconductive body mounted at one end to a conventional support bracket. At the other end an upper surface supports an arrester and a housing below that surface contains the disconnector, again containing upper and lower conductive members with an explosive charge therebetween. The housing surrounding the conductive members has a weakened zone which is separated when the charge is detonated by excessive current. After detonation of the explosive charge which removes the arrester ground lead in each embodiment, the arrester will still be mechanically supported by the remaining intact section of nonconductive bracket, the contour of which provides sufficient insulating strength between the energized base of the failed arrester and the grounded bracket to allow the arrester to remain energized without causing a system outage.

A coating of an uncured moisture activated material is disposed between the housing and the core. The coating cures upon reacting with moisture penetrating the housing to reseal the housing at a point of moisture penetration. The material cross-links in the presence of the moisture, thereby bonding with the moisture to prevent the moisture from contacting the core. The cured material is a rubber-like substance that adheres to the housing and to the core, thereby resealing the housing at the point of moisture penetration.

    摘要: A modular electrical assembly is enclosed in an elastomeric weathershed housing, and has a plurality of electrical components and end terminals aligned in a column and in electrical connection with one another via their axially-directed ends and under an axially-directed compressive force via a non-conductive filament winding. The filament winding defines a crisscross pattern with lateral openings for venting gas upon failure of one of the electrical components. The openings can be filled with fracturable epoxy or other insulating materials. Each end terminal has an electrically conductive part with a radially extending flange at its inner end, and an electrically insulative part mounted over the electrically conductive part and engaging the flange.
