The rear and the front carriage guide axle (4,5) in each case are supported in the side plate (2,3) of the printer frame (1). The print medium support (6) is disposed at a level different to that of the front carriage guide axle (4). In order to find a simple and more precise operating solution, which is based on measurable part steps, it is recommended, that the rear carriage guide axle (5) is supported in the side plates (2,3) with cams rings (13) and a parallel positioning between the print medium support (6) and the print head carriage guide is adjustable by one-sided lifting and lowering of the rear carriage guide axle (5).

The invention provides a process for the manufacture of a retinyl acylate of the formula I: wherein R1 is an optionally substituted C1-23-alkyl, a C2-23-alkenyl having 1 to 5 double bonds, an optionally aromatically substituted phenyl-C1-6-alkyl, or an optionally substituted phenyl. This process includes treating a compound of formula II: wherein R1 is defined above and R2 is hydrogen or COR1, with an agent that is an acid anhydride or a complex of sulfur trioxide in the presence of dimethylformamide. In addition to dimethylformamide, an aprotic organic solvent may optionally be present in the reaction. The products of the present invention are useful as intermediates for the manufacture of compounds of the vitamin A group or in certain cases as the compounds themselves.

A printer includes a platen (3), a print head (7) and a front carriage guide shaft (4) for supporting the print head and adjustable for selectively varying the print head-to-platen spacing. The guide shaft is mounted to the printer frame by an eccentric (11) and a setting lever (12) secured to the eccentric is selectively movable for adjusting the print head-to-platen spacing. A detent plate (13) is mounted to the printer frame (1, 2) and carries stops (14, 15) for limiting movement of the setting lever and, therefore, the print head-to-platen spacing adjustment. Releaseably engageable lock elements (16) on the detent plate and frame provide relative adjustability and retention of the position of the detent plate on the frame for setting the position of the front limit stop (15) and, thereby, the minimum permitted print head-to-platen spacing obtainable through movement of the setting lever.
