Abstract: An upright vacuum cleaner comprising a telescopic suction wand fluidly connected to a separating apparatus on the cleaner via a hose and which is used, as required, to clean above the level of the floor. The wand comprises a lower wand section, an upper wand section telescopically mounted to the lower wand section and a moveable locking member which, when the wand is released for use, is biased towards a locking position for locking out the wand sections in telescopic extension. The locking member is releasable from this locking position via a reaction member provided on the cleaner, against which reaction member a user may readily force the biased locking member out of the locking position using the locked-out wand.

Abstract: A vacuum cleaner comprises a removable dust separator. The dust separator has an inlet duct and an outlet duct. The inlet duct is arranged for fluid connection to a dirt-air duct on the cleaner, and the outlet duct is arranged for fluid connection to a motor intake duct on the cleaner. In accordance with the invention, the inlet duct and outlet duct share a common wall which divides the open ends of the ducts, an inlet duct sealing member is provided for forming an air-seal between the inlet duct and the dirty-air duct, and an outlet duct sealing member is provided for forming an air seal between the outlet duct and the motor intake duct. Both seals are thus required to fail in order to short-circuit the two dirty-air duct and the motor intake duct, despite there being a common wall section between the inlet duct and the outlet ducts.

Abstract: A handle assembly for a vacuum cleaner that includes a handle, a duct, a valve assembly, and a cover. Abstract: A vacuum cleaner has a removable cyclonic separator that includes a cyclone chamber; a dirt-collection chamber, open at one end; and an outlet duct from the cyclone chamber. Abstract: A telescopic wand for a vacuum cleaner includes an inner tube, an outer tube, and a catch assembly. The catch assembly includes a catch and a leaf spring. The catch pivotally mounts to the outer tube and includes a button and a locking stub. The leaf spring extends between the catch and the outer tube and exerts a biasing force on the catch. The catch pivots between lock and unlock positions. The catch is biased by the force to the lock position, and depressing the button causes the catch to pivot to the unlock position. Abstract: A telescopic wand for a vacuum cleaner includes an inner tube, an outer tube, and a catch, wherein the inner tube includes multiple projections, the outer tube includes a pair of bosses, and the catch includes a locking stub.
