Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing software are provided. The method includes decomposing a requirement input by a user into one or more capabilities using a capability class structure (CCS) corresponding to the requirement, creating a required capability profile corresponding to the requirement using a capability template corresponding to the capabilities, matching the required capability profile and an existing capability profile in a software unit catalogue, and assessing the existing capability profile matched with the required capability profile.
