Abstract: A lens holder assembly (49) and method of using the lens holder assembly (49) to mark an ophthalmic lens (3) is provided. The lens holder assembly (49) comprises a stem (61) having a central axis and a first opening (5) extending along the central axis of the body (65), a second opening (7) integrated within the stem (61) such that the second opening (7) is substantially parallel to the first opening (5), and at least one illumination source positioned within the second opening (7). The illumination source is capable of emitting light through the second opening (7) for illuminating at least a portion of an ophthalmic lens (3). At least a portion of the lens (3) is placed over the first opening (5). Suction is applied to the lens (3), and a marking is applied to a surface of the lens (3).

Abstract: A method for demonstrating an optical disorder includes providing two ophthalmic lenses in a first position relative to each other. Each lens includes a first vision zone and a second vision zone. The first vision zone includes a distance vision zone having a distance vision reference point and a power of between about −1.00 Diopters and −4.00 Diopters. The second vision zone includes a near vision zone having a near vision reference point and a power of between about +1.00 Diopters and about +4.00 Diopters. Each lens includes an Add power of between +2.00 Diopters and +3.25 Diopters; the ophthalmic lenses are repositioned to a second position relative to each other, so the distance vision zone of each lens is viewable by a wearer through the near vision zone and the near vision zone of each lens is viewable by a wearer through the distance vision zone.

Abstract: User configurable eyeglasses employing retention of lenses in eyeglass frames using elastic cushion connectors may include a pair of lenses, each lens comprising at least one tab extending from the lens. An eyeglasses frame may define at least two fittings, each fitting positioned to receive one tab extending from a lens and each fitting sized larger than the tab to be received. A plurality of eyeglass lens retention cushions are each adapted to be disposed in one of the fittings and to receive one of the tabs. Each eyeglass lens retention cushion might have an elastic cushion body having a relaxed, or in situ, exterior size larger than an interior socket of the fittings and may have an interior opening with a relaxed, or in situ, size smaller than a tab extending from an eyeglasses lens.

Abstract: A self-service kiosk for dispensing eyewear is disclosed. The kiosk includes a display for depicting available frame and lens options to customers. A user interface accepts eyewear order information from a customer including the customer's prescription information and frame selection. The kiosk also includes a lens manufacturing device that is wholly contained within the kiosk for manufacturing optical lenses in the prescription of the customer, which are adapted for the selected frame. Further, the kiosk includes a dispensing mechanism for dispensing from the kiosk the manufactured lenses, along with the customer selected frame.
