Abstract:
The system includes a plurality of sensor devices each arranged to monitor a respective physical or operating magnitude of apparatus, a device or a member of the vehicle, and to provide corresponding electrical signals. An acoustic signal generator provides a plurality of acoustic characterizing signals, indicative of corresponding predetermined operating conditions, and a plurality of acoustic level signals indicative of corresponding predetermined levels of importance attributable to the operating conditions. A processing unit detects on the basis of signals provided by the sensor devices the operating conditions of the vehicle and attaches in a predetermined manner, a level of importance to each operating condition identified, and supplies to the acoustic signal generator electrical control signals for causing the output of an acoustic signal comprising, in succession, the level signal and the characterizing signal associated with the operating condition detected.
Abstract:
Spheroidal cast iron pieces are tested by clamping each individual piece on a vibratory test rig together with a reference datum piece and using the measured amplitude and frequency of the system at resonance to derive an automatic indication, through an electronic logic circuit, of the quality of the piece under test compared with the reference piece.
Abstract:
A sound-attenuating ventilation louver is provided for location in an aperture of a wall which separates a chamber containing a source of noise from the external environment, the purpose of the louver being to allow gaseous flows to pass into and out of the chamber while minimizing the noise passing out through the louver from the noise source. The louver includes a plurality of profiled slats each in the form of an aerodynamically-shaped blade. Each slat includes a solid portion made of a sound-absorbent material and a hollow portion defined by a thin wall of rigid material; in use of the louver the sound-absorbent solid portion of each slat is disposed towards the chamber containing the noise source while the hollow portion is disposed towards the external environment. The hollow portion of each slat is subdivided into a plurality of chambers communicating with the atmosphere through ports and acting as resonators.
Abstract:
An exhaust silencer for an earth moving machine having an engine of about 10 liters capacity and a maximum power of about 150-160 HP has a cylindrical wall closed at opposite ends by first and second end walls and subdivided into two internal chambers by a transverse partition having therein four tube sections. To optimize the acoustic performance specific dimensions of the two chambers, of the tube sections and of inlet and outlet tubes in the end walls are prescribed.
Abstract:
Quality control inspection of a vehicle driving axle comprising a differential unit and two half-shafts, is effected by measuring the acceleration transmitted from the axle to a support structure as the axle is driven against a resisting torque. The transmitted acceleration is measured in terms of its three-mutually-orthogonal components using accelerometers which output electrical signals to a processing unit. The unit processes these signals to derive comparison parameters which are then compared with reference values, to identify certain faults which may be present in components of the differential unit.
