摘要： A printer system and method of managing the printer system. Printer sub-systems can register indicating system parameter affecting or, affected by, each. The printer is monitored for change requests to system parameters and, printer sub-systems are selectively notified of a requested parameter changes. Notified printer sub-systems respond indicating a time to apply each parameter change. Unless changes can be applied immediately, a change notification is displayed, requesting operator intervention and indicating a time for the intervention.

摘要： A print controller, methods, and software are disclosed. A print controller of the invention includes applications, a parameter manager, and a notification system. The applications register with parameter manager those parameters for which they want to be notified when a change occurs. As part of the registration, the applications designate a callback identifier (CID) for each of the parameters, where an individual CID may be associated with a single parameter or a plurality of related parameters. Responsive to receiving an indication of changes to one or more of the parameters, the notification system identifies the applications registered to be notified of changes to the parameters, and identifies the CIDs associated with the parameters that have changed. The notification system then transmits one or more notification messages, including the identified CIDs for the changed parameters, to each application that is registered.

The method includes steps of: defining at least one canonical data schema containing data type specifications in an electronic services registry; defining at least one electronic service interface specification in the electronic services registry, the electronic service interface specification defining messages being received and sent by a service, the message definitions referring to one or more of the data type specifications, and also containing addressing and encoding information for the delivery and receiving of messages to and from the service; and defining business service specifications in a business services registry, referring in the specification to an electronic service specification.
