Abstract: Electrified vehicle energy management techniques include determining when a state of charge (SOC) of a high voltage (HV) battery system is below an SOC threshold and, in response, determining whether an electric motor is operating as a generator or a consumer, when the electric motor is operating as a consumer, calculating a power offset value based on a difference between an available power of the HV battery system and a set of HV loads, when the electric motor is operating as a generator and its generated power is less than the set of HV loads, calculating the power offset value based on a difference between the generated power and the set of HV loads, and controlling the set of HV loads using a final output power calculated based on the power offset value and a minimum power for the set of HV loads.

Abstract: A short circuit protection system for a hybrid vehicle having an internal combustion engine and high voltage components including an electric drive motor is provided. The short circuit protection system includes a high voltage battery pack, a high speed reactive component and a controller. The high voltage battery pack powers the electric drive motor. The high speed reactive component is configured to move between a normally open position and a closed position, wherein in the closed position, power from the high voltage battery pack is diverted away from the high voltage components and to the high speed reactive component. The controller receives operating conditions of the high voltage components and communicates a signal to the high speed reactive component to move to the closed position based on operating conditions consistent with an electrical short to drain power from the high voltage battery pack.
