Abstract: A negative electrode for an alkaline storage battery that achieves both an improvement in cycle life and an improvement in low temperature discharge characteristics, and an alkaline storage battery including the negative electrode are disclosed. The negative electrode for an alkaline storage battery includes a negative electrode core body formed of metal, and a negative electrode mixture layer which contains at least a hydrogen storage alloy and yttrium fluoride, and is carried on the negative electrode core body. Particles of the yttrium fluoride are formed so that the average particle size thereof is equal to 1 μm or more and 7 μm or less.

Abstract: A nickel hydrogen secondary battery accommodates an electrode group including a positive electrode and a negative electrode which are stacked one on top of another through a separator, together with an alkaline electrolyte. The battery contains Li, with a total amount of Li in the battery 2 of 15 to 50 mg/Ah, as determined as the mass in terms of LiOH per Ah of the positive electrode capacity. The negative electrode includes particles of rare earth-Mg—Ni-based hydrogen storage alloy which contains a rare earth element, Mg and Ni. The hydrogen storage alloy particles 44 includes, on the surface thereof, a rare earth hydroxide which is the hydroxide of a rare earth element and has a specific surface area of 0.1 to 0.5 m2/g.

Abstract: A battery comprises an electrode group including a separator, a positive electrode and a negative electrode. Abstract: An electrode has a band-shaped core and an electrode mixture layer carried by the core to form a spiral electrode assembly with a gas generating electrode and a separator for an alkaline secondary battery. The electrode in the spiral shape has a first circumference portion, an intermediate portion, and an outermost circumference portion. The first circumference portion is a starting portion for winding into the spiral shape. The intermediate portion is a second and following circumferences of the spiral shape. The outermost circumference portion has an inner surface only which faces the gas generating electrode. The electrode mixture layer includes a reactant that develops a reaction consuming gas generated from the gas generating electrode. An amount of the reactant in the first circumference portion is more than those in the intermediate portion and/or the outermost circumference portion.
