Abstract: An assembly for a turbomachine and a method for assembling a plurality of flow path components are presented. The assembly includes a plurality of flow path components disposed adjacent to one another, each flow path component having a forward surface, an aft surface, a pressure side surface, and a suction side surface. A seal channel is defined by the pressure side surface and the suction side surface of adjacent flow path components. The seal channel has an open forward end proximate to the forward surfaces and at least two rear ends proximate to the aft surfaces. The assembly includes a plurality of seal layers disposed within the seal channel such that one or more seal layers extend from the open forward end to a rear end and one or more other seal layers extend from the open forward end to another rear end.

Abstract: A turbine shroud for turbine systems may include a forward end including a first hook coupled to the turbine casing, an aft end including a second hook coupled to the turbine casing, and a base portion extending between the forward end and the aft end. The base portion may include an inner surface facing a hot gas flow path for the turbine system. Also, the turbine shroud may include a flange extending from the aft end and positioned radially between the base portion and the second hook, a cooling passage positioned within the base portion, adjacent the inner surface, and at least one aft end exhaust conduit in fluid communication with the cooling passage. The aft end exhaust conduit(s) may extend through the aft end, radially between the base portion and the flange.

Abstract: A rotary machine includes a rotatable member and a casing extending circumferentially over the rotatable member. The casing includes first and second target impingement surfaces. The cooling system includes first and second impingement plates. The first impingement plate is positioned over the first target impingement surface and at least a portion of the second target impingement surface. The first impingement plate defines a plurality of first impingement holes configured to channel a first flow of cooling fluid toward the first target impingement surface. The second impingement plate is positioned over the second target impingement surface. The second impingement plate defines a plurality of second impingement holes configured to channel a second flow of cooling fluid toward the second target impingement surface. A thickness of the casing in the first target impingement surface is different than a thickness of the casing in the second target impingement surface.

Abstract: Methods of forming a cooling passage on a turbine component having a component wall with an internal surface and an external surface, are disclosed. An opening is formed passing through the component wall and fluidly connecting the internal and external surfaces. The opening includes a metering section extending from the internal surface to a metering end, and a diffuser area extending from the metering end to the external surface. A preformed cap element is added to close a portion of the diffuser area to form the cooling passage with a diffusion section extending from the metering end to the external surface. The preformed metal cap element includes a projection extending internally of the external surface and into the diffusion area to define an internally facing section of the diffusion section. The cooling passage extends through the component wall and fluidly connects the internal surface and the external surface.

Abstract: A turbine airfoil includes a body having an airfoil wall, and a coolant chamber within the body. A plurality of cooling passages are within the airfoil wall, each cooling passage includes: a first portion extending from a first point on an exterior surface of the airfoil wall to the coolant chamber, and a second portion extending from a second point on the exterior surface of the airfoil wall distal from the first point to intersect a mid-portion of the first portion. A cap element closes the first portion at the first point but leaving the second portion open. Each cooling passage has a single inlet in fluid communication with the coolant chamber and a single outlet at the second point of the second portion.
